New organ edition

Bach, Johann Sebastian (1685–1750)
pdf Two orchestral suites BWV 1067 and BWV 1068 (Ped.)
Arranged for solo organ and edited by Wolfgang Rübsam

    Price: € 16,00 (56 pages)
    Catalogue no.: BU 3085
Deriving from French courtly music, Baroque suites are cyclical sequences of more or less stylised dance movements preceded by an elaborate overture. As they tend to consist of lively and “gallant” music, they are regarded as examples of outstanding courtly entertainment. Of Bach’s four suites, the second (B minor) and third (D major) enjoy the greatest popularity today.
Whether it’s the festive French overture, elegant dance movements like Polonaise, Menuett, Bourrée, Sarabande, Gavotte, Gigue – or the Badinerie und Air, the most famous movements with their almost folk music-like moods: notwithstanding all Bach’s technical mastery, the movements sparkle with Baroque joy and are always a genuine crowd-puller, both in their original versions and in the numerous arrangements for various instruments and ensembles.
Wolfgang Rübsam, who has been one of the world’s leading concert organists for decades, has now produced the first transcriptions of the two famous suites for organ.
Intended for a two-manual organ and always lying nicely under the fingers, the arrangements deliver outstanding Baroque organ music whether performed as a whole or as individual movements, expanding the canon of Bach’s organ works to include two significant transcriptions.

Rübsam has now recorded both arrangements on the Casavant organ at the Church of St. Louis, King of France in Saint Paul, Minnesota (III/61). The CD will appear this October, and can be obtained via Butz-Verlag (CD No. 638) (advance orders are already being taken).

Latry, Olivier:
At the Organ of Notre-Dame
Conversations with Stéphane Friédérich
Translated by Martin Setchell

Price: € 15.00
(156 pages, paperback, with numerous illustrations)
Catalogue no. BuB 32 – ISBN: 978-3-928412-32-2

Born in 1962, Olivier Latry is one of the top organists of the present-day world. Appointed organist of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris at the age of 23, his fame has spread beyond Paris as a globally acclaimed concert organist, but he is also a sought-after pedagogue at the Paris Conservatoire as well as at international master classes. In dialogue with music editor and author Stéphane Friédérich, he covers a wide range of topics, revealing both his profound knowledge, and his personal convictions and confessions, always passionately expressed. The reader gains sound information about the self-image of the liturgical organist, organ improvisation, organ building issues, organ composers and compositions, world premieres, competitions, CD recordings, organ studies, popularization of the organ and its music, and much more. In addition to biographical details, the book contains valuable information about ‘his’ instrument at Notre Dame as well as his important predecessors in the organ loft. A highly readable book, which vastly widens our knowledge, especially of the French organ world, but also occasionally beyond it.
